FOR HOPE 2009

NEW ORLEANS ––On November 14th, 2009 New Orleans Hip-Hop for Hope will partner with Soundclash and Grassroots! to host HIP-HOP FOR HOPE 2009 at Tipitina’s Uptown, to benefit the Roots of Music program (www.rootsofmusic.org), 2-Cent Entertainment’s “Change We Can Create” Summer Program (www.2-Cent.com) and the Benjamin Foundation. Hip-Hop for Hope’s annual benefit concert has raised over $19,000 in the past three years for various educational programs in New Orleans.

This year, the fundraising aims directly at the role of music in education. The Roots of Music program is run by Rebirth Brass Band’s own Derrick Tabb, currently nominated for a CNN Hero’s award for his efforts. The program provides music education in history, theory, instrumental instruction and ensemble performance. Furthermore, academic tutoring is offered to ensure the students maintain at least a 2.5 GPA in school. 2-Cent Entertainment’s “Change We Can Create” Summer Program empowers students through a 7-week mentorship program, while they learn how to express their voices on a variety of issues through video production. The Benjamin Foundation supports a non-profit summer camp run by Q93’s own Wild Wayne, with the mission to “get kids off the streets and provide them with academic enhancement, guidance, direction, culture, experiences and love.”

Hip-Hop for Hope 2009 will feature Mia X, Mannie Fresh, the Show, DJ Raj Smoove, Raw Dizzy, Dee-1, Truth Universal, Impulss, Lyrikill, Sess 4-5, 3DNa’Tee, Tygah Woods, DJ EF Cuttin, DJ Tony Skratchere, Kourtney Heart, Phat Word, Team Robot, DY, and more.

Hip-Hop for Hope seeks to provide a forum for raising awareness about important community issues and to raise money for educational programming in New Orleans. This not-for-profit event is focused on building community through the music and culture of New Orleans Hip-Hop, by providing a forum for expression and an avenue for contributing back to the community.

WHEN:
Saturday, November 14th, 2009
9:00p.m. - 1:00a.m.

WHERE:<br released their highly acclaimed anthem for the New Orleans Saints, entitled, "Bring em to the Dome". Shamarr Allen is highly regarded as a jazz legend in the making, though his personal musical styles vary well beyond the traditional realms of music genres. This song is no exception. Shamarr and Dee-1 have managed to create a cross-over sound that appeals to the spirit of every New Orleanean, blending rowdy rock riffs with classic brass band and jazz influences, along with hard hitting hip-hop beats and rhymes.

Dee-1 and Shamarr have been working together for several projects now, including two tracks off of Shamarr's most recent album, "Box Who In?". Dee-1 has gained widespread success across the South and around the country after the release of his debut album, "David & Goliath", which also featured Shamarr's talented horn playing and rapping on their classic track, "Rebirth". Both albums are currently available on iTunes.

The new Saints anthem, "Bring em to the Dome", will be available on iTunes in the coming weeks, much to the delight of Saints fans around the state. Various New Orleans club DJ's and radio stations have already picked up the single, and they are currently playing the song on WWOZ, Q93, Power 102.9 and other stations.

SHOW Spinning since the age of 13, Raj broke onto the club and production scene during his college years and made a very big impact in his Hip-Hop
community.

In 2000, Raj Smoove, born Roger Donald Dickerson II, broke into the nation's view when he deejayed for Cash Money Records during the 2000 Cash Money/Ruff Ryder Tour. Since then, this bayou turntablist has received much national exposure. He appeared on BET's Rap City: Tha Bassment three times as a featured dj and also deejayed for the airing of the 106 & Park Top 10 Count Down: Super Bowl XXXVI edition in New Orleans. In July of '02, DJ Raj Smoove made history as the first DJ contracted by the Essence Music Festival to perform as a Superlounge artist in the Louisiana Superdome and has already been booked for the 2003 festival. In September of '02, Raj flew to Chicago to represent New Orleans as a finalist in the KOOL MIXX National DJ Championship.

For the past five years, Raj has been the resident Hip-Hop DJ at the world renowned House of Blues in New Orleans, rocking the very successful Soul 2 Soul Hip-Hop night every Thursday. In April of 2003, Raj signed on with Hot 104.5 KNOU in New Orleans as a mixshow DJ allowing him to dominate the city's airwaves as well. Stemming from this, the world renown and respected DJ organization, the Tech.Nitions inducted Raj Smoove making him the New Orleans representative. His presence in the city also won him a sponsorship with Anheiseur-Busch
making him an official Budweiser DJ.

Raj Smoove's relationship with Cash Money Records still remains, and he now acts as the in-house producer/DJ for Young Money Entertainment, Lil' Wayne's new label venture. Raj was the DJ behind the Lil' Wayne and SQAD Up underground mixtape buzz in New Orleans and throughout the country. As a producer, Raj has crafted several tracks for Wayne's new
album, The Carter, which dropped August of '03, as well as the SQAD's first album, SQ7. It’s no surprise that Raj was named

Raj has solid production credits under his belt already. He produced the tracks "If It's Cool" and "AssassinNation" on Mac's album WWIII, released on No Limit Records in 1999. He also released an entirely self-produced compilation album independently entitled Bayou Classic featuring many New Orleans' artists such as Mannie Fresh, Mia X, Mac, and 5th Ward Weebie.

In June 2008 he was featured as a panelist in the PotLuck Audio Conference’s Urban Edge Seminar 2008. Raj is also an Associate Member of The Recording Academy (Grammy Awards), who co-sponsored the event in New Orleans. On the panel, Raj’s experience and wisdom as a producer/ DJ was appreciated amongst industry greats such as Al Kapone (Hustle & Flow Soundtrack), Billy Hume (Shop Boys, “Party Like A Rockstar”), & Slicse Tee (Hustle & Flow, “Nolia Clap”) and other experienced music producers.

Raj has recently focused his attention on developing Paper Chasin Organization (PCO), an independent label venture which he co-owns with former Young Money artist, Raw Dizzy. PCO has already grown considerably, and the label plans to release Raw Dizzy's new album,
"On the Inside Looking Out", on August 25th, 2008.

Despite his many achievements, Raj still remains very humble and down-to-earth. He is a hard worker and holds others to the high standards of quality that he has for himself.
For more info call 504.288.6129 or hit the website at www.psychoward.com.

New Orleans Hip-Hop for Hope 2008: November 8th @ Tipitinas!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ZOxiDBUIorg/SNf2ruUtS5I/AAAAAAAAAj0/wbj7U9K3PJ8/s400/hiphopforhopelogo.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248935121753295762" />

The 3rd Annual Hip-Hop for Hope Benefit Concert is set to take place on Saturday, November 8th, 2008 @ Tipitina's Uptown.

The 2008 line up includes some of the best Hip-Hop acts from New Orleans and around the country, including:

-Truth Universal w/ One Eye and DJ EF Cuttin
-Dee 1
-Sess 4-5
-Raw Dizzy

and more artists to be announced soon...

***************************************************************
Are you an artist who thinks you have what it takes to represent hope for our generation?

Check out the up coming "Hustle for the Cause" contest...

Up and Coming artists from New Orleans can submit their music and press kits (nola.hiphopforhope@gmail.com) for a chance to enter the "Hustle for the Cause" Contest.

Rules:

1. This one is a perfect example. While Tipitina's is a venue not especially known for Hip-Hop music (aside from the annual Hip-Hop for Hope Benefit Concert and the occasional visit from the likes of Galactic, Charlie Tuna, Atmosphere, Devin the Dude, and others), it has the undeniable potential for anything legendary and unforgettable.

This Benefit Concert for the Black August movement represents a continued shift in New Orleans when it comes to the underground hip-hop scene here in the city. The support for this type of music has grown, despite the population drop after the storm, and benefit concerts of this nature continue to remind all of the true hip-hop heads in New Orleans that change is possible.

The line up promises for a diverse, yet collectively moving series of performances. The headliner, Mos Def, has been a strong advocate for the people of New Orleans after the storm. Immediately following Hurricane Katrina, Mos Def recorded the song "Katrina Clap", which was an emotionally charged remix of the classic Juvenile track, "Nolia Clap". Right after the Jena 6 protests, Mos traveled around with the young and talented crew of 2-Cent Entertainment, who showed him some of the devastation from the storm that has yet to be addressed. Mos gave heartfelt interviews on camera for 2-Cent's television show, but as impressive as his passionate opinions and beliefs were in the interview, I was most impressed with the fact that he was such a real and genuine person to actually care enough about the issues to come down and see New Orleans for himself.

Aside from the overwhelming excitement surround Mos' headlining spot, the rest of the line up is one you won't want to miss. Def Jam Poetry veteran, and New Orleans resident, Sunni Patterson will be performing some of her work. Sunni's work as a spoken-word artist and activist in the city has earned her the respect of many within the hip-hop and poetry community alike.

New Orleans most respected veteran underground artist, Truth Universal, will be a great addition to the night. His most recent album release, "Self-Determination", earned a positive review in the Source Magazine last month, and has most definitely helped bring much-deserved but long overdue attention his way.

Before all of that happens, you don't want to miss the performances by Sess 4-5, Gabrilla Ballard & Elleguae. Sess 4-5 is an icon for the streets of New Orleans, having recently opened up his record store, Nothing But Fire Records. Sess's work with the store and his success with his monthly music industry conference with DJ Wild Wayne has only served to solidify his place as a major contributor to the hip-hop community of New Orleans. And what of his music? ....Nothing But Fire.

Don't miss this once in a lifetime concert, Thursday August 28th, 2008 at Tipitina's Uptown. Buy your tickets now! This one is going to sell out fast. This Black August concert has been all around the world, including Cuba and countries in Africa and beyond. It is rare that New Orleans gets this type of event for the underground community, but I am glad to see that people like Mos Def havn't forgotten about us. I will see you there!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ZOxiDBUIorg/SLT_hxRM7GI/AAAAAAAAAh4/bhI15XSocUA/s400/MosDefBlackAugust.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5239093222164982882" />

CHECK OUT HH4H VETERAN DIZZY AKA RAW D.I.'s NEW VIDEO!!!!!!!

CHECK OUT DIZZY AKA RAW D.I.'s NEW VIDEO!!!!!!!

CAN'T SIT STILL

THE NEW ALBUM "ON THE INSIDE LOOKING OUT" COMING SOON!!!!!!!!!

MYSPACE.COM/DIZZYAKARAWDI
WWW.PCOENT.COM
P.C.O. More importantly, corporate partners will receive public recognition for their contributions to the student internship program operated by the Stars 4 Students Foundation.

About The Producer

“Music 4 Recovery”™ is operated by a new, socially conscious company called Stars 4 Students®, (“S4S®”), a cause-marketing specialist which promotes student and partner charitable activities on a global scale through programs that incorporate academic, entertainment, and corporate partnerships.

S4S® works through its nonprofit arm, the Stars 4 Students Foundation, to raise funds for students working in philanthropy. The 24-year-old works overtime as a member of Young Money Entertainment, which includes platinum artist Lil Wayne, while simultaneously pursuing a solo career. Having gained the support of his fellow New Orleanians, Dizzy is setting his sights on other cities.

Dizzy recently opened up shows for Jim Jones, Juvenile and Rich Boy. He has performed frequently with Young Money Entertainment on such tours as the Nelly Ville tour in 2003, The Georgia Power Tower featuring Young Jeezy, T.I., and Lil Wayne in 2005 and the Young Money Entertainment tour in 2006. When Dizzy isn’t touring across the country you can find him performing in his hometown. Dizzy is a reoccurring performer at the New Orleans House of Blues, The Venue, Caesar’s, Club Dreams, and other clubs located in Baton Rouge, Houma, and Hammond Louisiana.

Dizzy is affiliated with Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment and P.C.O. (Paper Chasin’ Organization), a label that he is a co-owner of. He was the first in New Orleans to turn mix tapes into albums. He has since released five mix tapes/albums, 1000 Miles to Downtown, Best of Dizzy AKA Raw D.I., Unload, Reloaded, The Raw, and is currently working on his sixth album, From the Ground Up. Dizzy possesses a mature street sound and his new album features hip-hop influences with contemporary style that keeps it relevant and diverse. Many
times wearing his heart on his sleave, you can feel
the love he has for his city, the time and dedication
he has put into his craft, mixed with the warnings of
the deep end of the street life here in New Orleans.
He has been compared to the legendary Soulja Slim, by
many, for writing rhymes that have a real and human
quality to them. If you want to know what "real" means
and you see him on the street, go up and ask him.
Thats how real he is. -D.J. That's certainly the case for members of the hip-hop community, and even moreso for one of indie label Media Darling's biggest stars. Social conscience and intelligence are expected. "By day, he spends his time rebuilding the city," proclaims the CD's booklet, as if Know-One was some sort of superhero. But it's really hip-hop he wants to save. The 23 concise tracks on this, his first disc since the tragedy, are divided into past, present, and future ruminations, and it's no coincidence that he spends almost twice as much time talking about the classic days of the genre. Being underground and old school is still his main, not-so-secret identity.

As such, there's a strong R&B flavor running through Know One's Home, as if he and virtual knob-twirler Quickie Mart realized that familiarity equals calm. The sound is just angular and jazzy enough to qualify as collegiate, but breaking new sonic ground isn't as important here as quiet reflection, as if this was a musical version of a Road Home hearing. Yet to this MC, the souls of his fellow DJs seem more in danger of decay than the Crescent City, so when Stanton Moore pops up on "Savali… It's Complicated" and all of Galactic joins in on "Too Much," it's less a gambit for musical community than a realization that popping up inadvertently in the musical mainstream carries its own special responsibilities. By day, he rebuilds the city… by night, he becomes Know One, groove vigilante. Few rappers of any scene can pull that one off.

TRUTH UNIVERSAL: http://www.myspace.com/truthuniversal

NOMADIC SOUL: http://www.myspace.com/nomadicsol

JIMI CLEVER: http://myspace.com/jimiclever

JEALOUS MONK: http://www.myspace.com/jealousmonk

Rock Box Music Presents...

J-DUBBLE: www.myspace.com/jdubble7

MR. it is a shared vision for a better future
Hip-Hop for Hope is a student-led organization comprised of college students, professors, local businesses, artists, activists, and community leaders who all recognize the power of music as a means of communicating a positive message.
Hip-Hop provides a forum for raising awareness about important community issues and is a means to raise money for education in New Orleans.

Mission Statement:

The goal of this annual event is to raise money to support educational programming at local schools and to raise awareness about two key community issues; Education and HIV/AIDS.
This not-for-profit event is focused on building community through the music and culture of New Orleans Hip-Hop, by providing a forum for expression, an avenue for contributing back to the community, and a venue for positive affirmation and cross-cultural interaction.

Goals: Event Development

Increase the level of community participation:

The success of our event is dependent upon community interaction, participation and communication.
In order to maximize interaction, it is important to utilize a variety of media sources to promote the event, while providing ways in which people can get involved in the process and the event itself.
By utilizing a variety of media sources, we are able to communicate to a diverse group of people on a number of levels, while setting a positive tone of tolerance, respect and cooperation for the event.
One way we are seeking to increase involvement is by holding poetry and music showcases for local amateur artists, who will compete for an opportunity to perform at the main event.

We are seeking out community leaders, students and individuals for their input in order to shape the event around the people it is serving.

We are responsive and open to new ideas, and constantly seeking out individuals with specific talents who want to contribute to our mission.
Hip-Hop is more than just music; it is a culture that is expressed in a variety of other art forms, including poetry, dance and visual arts.
In order to increase artist participation and the overall appeal of the event, we are seeking to expand our events in 2008 to include more spoken word performances, break dancing and step competitions, DJ and MC battles and graffiti art.

More artistic diversity leads to a more accurate representation of Hip-Hop culture with a positive message, and will increase participation from a variety of individuals.

Diverse programming will inevitably lead to greater interest in the event from a variety of different individuals and groups, while opening up our event to a broader range of media outlets.

The use of different art forms throughout the event, will help encourage young people to use art, in any form, as a means of expression, communication and positive affirmation of self. The various sights, sounds, smells and tastes of such a diverse event will lead to the ultimate experience for the audience, thereby enhancing the events’ viability and credibility for future years.
